Political positions of Kirsten Gillibrand

Kirsten Gillibrand is the junior United States Senator from New York and a member of the Democratic Party. Formerly a Member of the United States House of Representatives from the generally conservative 20th congressional district, she was appointed to the Senate in 2009, representing a generally liberal state. Gillibrand's views on many issues has been described as an evolution based on constituency; however many have characterized these drastic changes including those in her former congressional district as flip-flopping since her abrupt changing of views was politically expedient for her various elections.
In the House, she was known as a conservative liberal or centrist, serving at the will of a highly conservative electorate.〔 She was a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a caucus of conservative Democrats.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 title=About Kirsten ) 〕 In the Senate, she is known more as one of the most liberal Senators, as she represents a heavily Democratic state. At the time of her appointment to the Senate, a Salon editorial said that her reputation in the House characterized her as "a hybrid politician who has remained conservative enough to keep her seat while appearing progressive enough to raise money downstate." Another editorial by the New York Post characterized her as a chameleon who will do anything, say anything, forget anything, spin anything to get elected citing in their words her 180-degree reversals on gun control and immigration and how she quickly became one of the most liberal members of the Senate while just formerly having one of the most moderate voting records in the House.〔
